Inactive account fees by banks should be illegal

Another shocking surprise in the United States of Corporate America. I just found out today that banks can charge you inactive account fees. So if I have a free checking account, and maintain the minimum balance to keep it free, the bank can still steal my money with made up nonsensical fees? In addition, with zero direct notification, just hidden 5 pages deep in some small print in service agreement? So they are literally secretly stealing my money. In my case, I discovered my online access to ASCEND CREDIT UNION had been suspended. I called to ask why, and was told my online access gets inactivated if I don't log in for a year. They said I would need to go in person to a branch to make a deposit, and this would reactivate my account. NO MENTION at all that they had already zeroed out this account with inactive account charges. I didn't find that out until I pointlessly wasted my time going to a branch and making a deposit. I would have just closed my account instantly and not even bothered with making a deposit. So when I researched this online, I found out that most if not all banks do this and you, as our federal government, allow it? You seriously hate the people you represent don't you? You just see us as money bags for your corporate bribers.
