Vote NO on the SAVE Act
To: Sen. Peters
From: A constituent in Farmington, MI
April 16
I'm writing as your constituent to urge you to speak out and vote against the so-called "SAVE Act," a dangerous piece of legislation that would undermine access to the ballot for millions of eligible Americans.
This bill would create new and unnecessary barriers that disproportionately affect seniors, students, rural residents, newly naturalized citizens, veterans, and women -- particularly married women whose documentation may not match their voter records due to name changes.
In Michigan alone:
* Over 5.8 million registered voters do not have passports, a document the bill would effectively require.
* More than 2.2 million married women could face documentation issues.
* Thousands of voters who used online registration -- approved by Michigan voters -- would be disenfranchised if this bill becomes law.
The SAVE Act would also ban voter registration drives and mail-in registration, both of which are vital tools for reaching underserved communities, especially in rural parts of our state.
Every eligible citizen deserves the freedom to vote without facing impossible hurdles. I urge you to be loud, be clear, and reject this anti-voter legislation.
Please stand up for Michigan voters and protect our fundamental right to participate in our democracy.
