Sanction Israel Now for Violating International Law

I am writing to express my deep concern over the ongoing military operations conducted by Israel in Gaza, which have resulted in severe humanitarian crises and violations of international law. Recent reports, including those from Al Jazeera and Amnesty International, highlight the dire situation in Rafah, where over 35 individuals were killed in tent bombings, and critical infrastructure has been devastated, exacerbating the already dire living conditions for Palestinians. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has issued an order dated May 24, 2024, mandating Israel to halt its military actions and ensure the provision of humanitarian aid. Despite this directive, the violence continues unabated, raising serious concerns about violations of international law and human rights. Additionally, the United Nations Security Council has strongly condemned attacks against humanitarian workers and UN personnel. The resolution adopted on May 24, 2024, calls for the immediate cessation of all attacks on humanitarian aid workers and the facilitation of their safe and unimpeded access to those in need. Furthermore, a report from the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor details that Israel launched over 60 air raids on Rafah within 48 hours following the ICJ's order, resulting in numerous civilian casualties, including entire families. This blatant disregard for international legal rulings highlights the urgent need for action. The United States, as a global leader and a staunch advocate for human rights, has a responsibility to act. Imposing sanctions on Israel is a necessary step to pressure the Israeli government to comply with international law and cease its military operations that result in civilian casualties. Sanctioning Israel would demonstrate our commitment to upholding international law and send a clear message that the United States will not tolerate actions that result in significant human suffering and violations of human rights. These sanctions should include measures such as restricting military aid and economic assistance. We should not be sending weapons and money to Israel when they are clearly and continuously defying ICJ orders and UN resolutions. I urge you to support and advocate for immediate sanctions against Israel. The international community must stand united in condemning these actions and ensuring accountability. The Palestinians of Gaza deserve to live without fear of violence, and it is our duty to help make that a reality. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
