I am writing to express my deep concern about the recent incident involving Tim Sheehy during a Senate hearing, where he broke the arm of a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. This behavior is not only unacceptable but also undermines the integrity of the Senate.
As a citizen, I believe it is imperative for our elected officials to uphold the highest standards of conduct. Actions that physically harm others, especially in a congressional setting, are intolerable and must be met with serious consequences. Therefore, I urge you and your fellow senators to take decisive action in response to this incident.
I believe that censure alone is insufficient to address such a severe breach of conduct. Therefore, I request that you consider more substantial actions, including:
Removal from Committees: This would limit Mr. Sheehy's influence and responsibilities within the Senate.
Public Accountability: Initiating public forums or discussions on the expectations for conduct among senators would reinforce our commitment to ethical behavior.
Expulsion: If warranted, expulsion from the Senate should be on the table, as it reflects the gravity of his actions.
The actions of public officials carry significant weight, and it is essential to hold them accountable when they fail to meet those standards. I hope you will take my concerns seriously and act to uphold the integrity of the Senate.
