Congress MUST approve foreign gifts by LAW

To: Rep. Jayapal, Sen. Murray, Sen. Cantwell

From: A constituent in Seattle, WA

May 12

The Constitution clearly prohibits federal officials from accepting foreign gifts or emoluments without Congressional consent. This ethical safeguard aims to prevent undue influence and conflicts of interest that could undermine our nation's sovereignty and democratic integrity. Violations of this principle, whether intentional or not, erode public trust in government and enable corruption to take root. For the long-term stability and cohesion of our society, it is imperative that we uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability enshrined in our founding documents. Failure to do so perpetuates a corrosive cycle of cynicism and division that threatens the very foundation of our republic. We must consistently enforce constitutional norms and demonstrate an unwavering commitment to the rule of law, not just in rhetoric but in practice. The American people deserve leadership that prioritizes ethical conduct and national interests over personal gain or foreign entanglements.
