The Department of Education plays a vital role in ensuring equal access to quality education for all students across the country. Eliminating it through an executive order would undermine key initiatives and funding streams that support disadvantaged students, students with disabilities, and educational programs vital to the nation's future. I urge you to oppose any efforts to diminish or dismantle the Department of Education, as it would have far-reaching negative consequences for millions of students, families, and communities. Instead, we should be strengthening the department's ability to promote educational equity, support teachers and schools, and invest in evidence-based strategies to improve student outcomes. Education is a fundamental right and its central oversight at the federal level is essential for upholding national standards and protecting the interests of all learners. Dismantling the Department of Education through unilateral executive action would be an unwise and detrimental move that undermines our shared commitment to providing high-quality education for every child.
