I am writing to bring to your urgent attention the death of Palestinian surgeon Dr. Adnan al-Bursh, who was detained during the Israeli military’s siege of al-Shifa Hospital and later died under suspicious circumstances in Ofer Prison. According to testimony from an inmate at the prison, Dr. al-Bursh was severely beaten and tortured to the extent that he could not even go to the bathroom unaided. He was reportedly assaulted, stripped, and abandoned in a prison yard before his death.
Despite these damning accounts, the Israeli military and the Israel Prison Service have denied any responsibility for his death, offering no transparency or accountability. This is yet another horrifying example of the systematic abuse faced by Palestinians under Israeli occupation, a situation that has escalated into a humanitarian catastrophe.
The U.S. must take decisive action to end its complicity in these atrocities. I demand the following:
1. Economic and military sanctions on Israel: The U.S. must immediately suspend all military aid and impose economic sanctions until Israel adheres to international law and ends its systematic abuses.
2. A forced ceasefire: The U.S. must use its influence to compel Israel to agree to an immediate and permanent ceasefire with all parties. Continued violence is unacceptable.
3. Immediate refunding of UNRWA: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency, a lifeline for Palestinian civilians, must be fully refunded to address the humanitarian crisis exacerbated by Israel’s actions.
Dr. al-Bursh’s death is not an isolated incident but part of a larger pattern of violence and impunity. Continued U.S. support for Israel as it carries out these crimes against humanity undermines our nation’s credibility and fuels instability.
I will not vote for any elected official who supports arming Israel or who stands by as these atrocities continue. I urge you to act immediately to bring justice for Dr. al-Bursh and the countless others who have suffered under this occupation.
