Stop Illegal Use of Taxpayer Funds for Pro-Trump Ads

To: Sen. Murphy, Rep. Courtney, Sen. Blumenthal

From: A constituent in Ledyard, CT

September 27

Stop the use of taxpayer dollars to run political ads promoting Donald Trump. This is not a policy disagreement — it is illegal. Section 718 of Division E of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026 explicitly prohibits using any appropriated funds "directly or indirectly, including through a private contractor, for publicity or propaganda purposes within the United States not heretofore authorized by Congress." These ads are a textbook violation, and there are credible indications they also violate the Hatch Act. Demand a full accounting of how these funds were spent, push for an investigation into who authorized these ads, and support any oversight measures that shut this down permanently. If officials can spend public money on political promotion without consequence, that abuse will only grow. Hold them accountable now.
