An Open Letter

To: Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters, Rep. Moolenaar

From: A constituent in Rockford, MI

September 13

Demand for Accountability Regarding Congressional Absence and Compensation I am a voting constituent and taxpayer expressing disapproval regarding extended, unexcused congressional absences. According to recent reports detailing Senator Mitch McConnell’s three-month absence as the Senate reconvenes, public servants are continuing to receive full taxpayer-funded compensation despite not performing their primary legislative duties. Constituents across this country are expected to report to work to receive a paycheck. Allowing lawmakers and their staff to draw full salaries during months-long absences without accountability is unacceptable. I urge you to initiate immediate proceedings to address this prolonged absence, including vote-removal mechanisms and the immediate suspension of compensation for Senator McConnell and his staff until active service resumes. Taxpayers should not fund salaries for jobs that are actively left undone.
