As your constituent, I am concerned by the impact that Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s cruel operations have had on immigrant families and my communities in New York State and Puerto Rico. The Puerto Rican government has decided to take away protections of school grounds when faced with Ice enforcement.
The only solution to these threats to public safety in both regions is to Abolish Ice and Support the Reimagine Safety Bill introduced by Delia Ramirez in the House and ensure Senate approval.
H.R. 10803 has the solution the people in this country have imagined to stop this cruel intrusion of our communities and stop senseless killings like we saw all over the country such as two innocent immigrant fathers, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Joan Sebastian
Guerrero—following the killings of Silverio Villegas González, Nurul Amin Shah Alam, Renée Good,
Alex Pretti, and many others by immigration enforcement.
My communities in Puerto Rico already suffer enough under the austerities imposed by this country. It is unconscionable that more injustices are forced upon school children during Ice enforcement. Children should not have to be suffer for the neglect of the Puerto Rican government or the United States agency set to terrorize them.
If HR10803 does not pass - similar bills should be drafted and pushed in the upcoming Congress.
Thank you for your attention.
