Support the SAFE Sunscreen Standards Act

To: Rep. Doggett, Sen. Cornyn, Pres. Trump, Sen. Cruz

From: A constituent in Austin, TX

August 11

I urge you to vote YES on the SAFE Sunscreen Standards Act, which will improve access to safe and effective sunscreen options for all Americans. Skin cancer rates are rising nationwide, yet the FDA has not approved any new sunscreen ingredients since the 1990s. As a result, the United States is several generations behind other countries in sunscreen innovation and protection. Maintaining the status quo is not acceptable. The SAFE Sunscreen Standards Act will: • Uphold rigorous safety standards while streamlining the evaluation process for sunscreen ingredients • Allow the use of real-world evidence, observational studies, and non-animal testing methods • Align U.S. sunscreen standards with international advancements, fostering innovation and expanding consumer choice This legislation is strongly supported by The Skin Cancer Foundation, major melanoma prevention and public health organizations, dermatology groups, and industry leaders. By passing the SAFE Sunscreen Standards Act, Congress can help save lives and reduce preventable cases of skin cancer. Thank you for your leadership and consideration on this vital public health matter.
