Remove Linda McMahon and hold this administration accountable for its systematic dismantling of public education. What's happening at the Department of Education is not chaos — it's a deliberate strategy. Staff has been cut from 4,200 to 2,300. Over 100 programs have been shuffled to other agencies. The Office for Civil Rights shuttered 7 of its 12 regional offices, let 25,000 complaints pile up, dismissed roughly 90% of unresolved cases, and the GAO estimates taxpayers spent up to $38 million paying OCR staff not to work. Now the 2027 budget proposes cutting OCR by another 35%. This is not mismanagement. Executive Order 14191, signed in January 2025, explicitly directed agencies to reroute public school funding to private schools. The "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" (Public Law 119-21) created a federal voucher tax credit that funnels public dollars into private schools with zero requirement to follow Title VI, Title IX, IDEA, or the ADA. State-level evidence is damning: Florida's voucher program cost $4 billion and triggered school closures and mass layoffs. Arizona's program burned a $1 billion hole in the state budget. Research consistently shows vouchers don't improve outcomes for kids. Quite the opposite, in fact. That doesn't even count religious private schools that do not teach facts. Public schools serve every child. This administration is defunding and dismantling the agency responsible for protecting them. McMahon must go, and Congress must block the 35% OCR cut, oppose moving IDEA oversight to HHS, and pursue repeal of the federal tax credit scholarship program.
