Speak Out Against HHS Regulations Based on Flawed Science

To: Rep. Huizenga, Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters

From: A verified voter in Kalamazoo, MI

April 15

Speak out against the falsehoods these HHS regulations are based on. The rules that would ban federal insurance coverage for gender-affirming care rest on a flawed report written in just eight weeks by nine authors who all opposed this care before they even began their work, none of whom were transgender or had experience treating trans kids with hormone therapy. Read the full investigation here: https://www.propublica.org/article/trump-transgender-youth-treatment-ban-report The report's lead author, Leor Sapir from the conservative Manhattan Institute, assembled a team with ties to groups the Southern Poverty Law Center has classified as hate groups. One author has called gender identity "a fantasy or superstitious belief." This is not evidence-based medicine. This is ideology masquerading as science. Gender-affirming care is life-saving care. Since January 2025, at least nine hospital systems have already stopped providing this care because they cannot afford to lose federal reimbursements that cover nearly half of all hospital spending. Over 30,000 public comments from parents, doctors, teachers, and trans youth themselves have begged the government not to interfere in private medical decisions. A federal judge in Oregon already ruled that RFK Jr. overstepped his authority on this issue. Families and their doctors should make these decisions, not politicians wielding junk science.
