Defend disability rights, reject Texas v. Becerra lawsuit

To: Rep. Casar, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in San Antonio, TX

March 21

The lawsuit Texas v. Becerra poses a grave threat to disability rights by seeking to dismantle Section 504 and its updated regulations. Section 504 is a critical civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance. The updated regulations strengthen protections for disabled individuals, ensuring equal access to healthcare, education, and other vital services. Dismantling Section 504 would roll back decades of progress in promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities for the disability community. It would deprive disabled individuals of their hard-won rights and create barriers to full participation in society. This attack on disability rights is unacceptable and must be vehemently opposed. I urge you to withdraw your support for Texas v. Becerra and instead champion the rights of disabled individuals enshrined in Section 504. Protecting and upholding these regulations is crucial for safeguarding the dignity, autonomy, and well-being of the disability community. Disability rights are civil rights, and any attempt to undermine them must be resisted.
