Rein in Elon Musk's undue influence over federal agencies

To: Rep. Pettersen, Sen. Bennet, Sen. Hickenlooper

From: A verified voter in Arvada, CO

February 25

I am deeply concerned about the growing influence of Elon Musk over federal agencies through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk's unilateral decisions to shut down key agencies like USAID and the CFPB, without proper oversight or input from career officials and Cabinet members, are unacceptable and unconstitutional overreach. Federal agencies should operate independently, serving the public interest rather than being subject to the whims of a single individual with clear conflicts of interest. While streamlining bureaucracy is a worthy goal, DOGE's aggressive tactics are creating dysfunction, internal struggles over authority, job insecurity for federal workers, and a severe lack of transparency. Musk's business ties to government contracts through SpaceX and Tesla raise serious ethical questions about his motivations behind agency closures and budget cuts. This unchecked power granted to an unelected private citizen goes against democratic principles and undermines the system of checks and balances. I urge you to take immediate action to rein in DOGE's overreach, restore proper congressional oversight, and ensure that Cabinet secretaries have full control over their agencies. Unelected officials should not wield unilateral authority to dismantle key government functions without due process. Preserving the integrity of our institutions and the public's trust in government must be the top priority.
