Investigate the Department of Justice's use of militarized pre-dawn raids against elderly, nonviolent green card holders accused of voting irregularities, two weeks before the midterm elections.
Omar Muñoz, a 72-year-old man recovering from six surgeries, was dragged from his home at 5am by a squad of helmeted officers with shields, surrounded by six law enforcement vehicles and a helicopter. The DOJ then posted a slickly edited video of his arrest to social media, set to upbeat rock music, captioned "OPERATION PROTECT THE VOTE." Justin Levitt, a former deputy assistant attorney general and Loyola law professor, called it "disgusting" and said there was "no point other than partisan politics behind that sizzle reel." Former DOJ attorney Sergio Perez called the militarized approach to a nonviolent, non-flight-risk defendant "unheard of."
Noncitizen voting is exceedingly rare. More than 230 million people were registered to vote in 2024, and the DOJ has charged roughly 170 people for illegal voting since the start of this administration. Launching theatrical mass arrests weeks before an election, then publishing propaganda-style videos before defendants are even indicted, is a profound abuse of prosecutorial power. This demands a full investigation.
