It is my earnest belief that the "Kids Online Safety Act" masks potential to censor and further marginalize communities like mine under the guise of protecting children—particularly with the current administration. There surely need to be consequences and limits to how big tech affects our society's children negatively, but they must be specific and granular, rather than so broad as to allow for a degree of censorship alien to the ethos that makes the internet the power it is and to give a tool of repression to any governing power over a platform where the people's voices can join and exchange ideas in ways that can benefit us all. Vote no on this act, and replace it with a holistic view that assesses how to protect freedom of speech, the well-being of America's youth, and empowers parents in their role as guardians of their children.
