Sign onto the congressional letter opposing the Trump administration's proposal to rescind the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule. Across the country, tens of millions of acres of national forest — from the Shawnee to the Tongass to the forests of the Rockies and beyond — are on the chopping block. You have not signed. That silence is a choice, and it's the wrong one. The Roadless Rule was built on 600 public meetings and 1.6 million public comments. It has protected watersheds, wildlife habitat, and biodiversity for 25 years. Forest Service Chief Tom Schultz, a former timber industry lobbyist, is framing this rollback as wildfire prevention — but the USDA's own 2020 research found roadless areas burn at similar rates as roaded ones. Roads don't stop fires. They bring the human activity that starts 85% of them. This is about opening federal land to logging and drilling, full stop. I've written to you about this before. Big Bend was the opening move. Now they're coming for every wild place left in this country — the animals, the plants, the landscapes that can't be rebuilt once they're gone. The comment deadline has been extended to October 6. Add your name to the congressional opposition letter and publicly call on the administration to abandon this proposal before it's too late.
