We need stronger gun safety policies to help prevent gun violence and save lives. The evidence clearly shows that states with robust gun laws experience far lower rates of gun deaths. Responsible policies like requiring background checks on all gun sales, enacting Extreme Risk laws to temporarily remove firearms from individuals who pose a threat, secure firearm storage requirements, prohibitions on assault weapons and large capacity magazines, and closing loopholes that allow domestic abusers to access guns have been proven effective at reducing gun violence. These common-sense measures respect the rights of lawful gun owners while keeping guns out of dangerous hands. Inaction is unacceptable when so many lives are at stake. I urge you to prioritize passing comprehensive gun violence prevention legislation to make our communities safer for all.
