Save the CPSC

To: Rep. Stanton, Sen. Kelly, Sen. Gallego

From: A verified voter in Chandler, AZ

July 21

As one of your constituents, I am extremely concerned about attempts to weaken the independence and authority of the Consumer Product Safety Commission by moving it under the Department of Health and Human Services. This move will make the marketplace less safe, and put me and my family at greater risk of exposure to banned or dangerous products. I strongly urge you to vote to uphold the CPSC as an independent, bipartisan watchdog agency that works to keep all Americans safe. Congress created the CPSC over 50 years ago to protect families across the country from dangerous or illegal products in the marketplace, and give Americans the timely information they need to keep themselves and their families safe. In its role as an independent watchdog agency, the CPSC oversees the safety of more than 15,000 types of consumer products including toys, baby products, appliances, and electronics, works with Customs and Border Protection to prevent dangerous products from entering the country, and sets safety standards that protect people from injuries and death. It has a special role making sure that kids’ products are safe, recognizing that our children are particularly vulnerable. Please vote to uphold the CPSC as an independent, bipartisan watchdog agency, so it can do its job protecting my family's safety.
