**Oppose National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk** I am writing to express my strong opposition to the recently passed resolutions in both the Senate and House of Representatives establishing a 'National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk' on October 14, 2025. While I acknowledge the tragedy of any loss of life, I believe this resolution sets a dangerous precedent by honoring an individual who promoted deeply divisive and harmful ideologies. Charlie Kirk, through his organization Turning Point USA and his public platforms, consistently espoused views that many Americans, including myself, find abhorrent. These include promoting racism, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia, sexism, and Christian Nationalism. Such ideologies have no place in our diverse, pluralistic society and should not be tacitly endorsed by our government through a national day of remembrance. The Senate's unanimous approval and the House's passage of this resolution, despite 96 Democrats voting against it, is deeply concerning. It suggests a willingness to overlook the harmful impact of Kirk's rhetoric and actions for the sake of political expediency. This decision not only disregards the pain and marginalization experienced by many Americans due to the ideologies Kirk championed but also risks legitimizing these harmful views. I urge you to reconsider your support for this resolution and to work towards rescinding it. Instead, I propose focusing our national remembrance on individuals who have truly united our country and advanced the causes of equality, justice, and mutual understanding. We should be honoring those who bring Americans together, not those who have sowed division and hatred. Furthermore, I request that you publicly address the concerns of constituents who oppose this resolution. It is crucial that our representatives understand the gravity of endorsing such a controversial figure and the message it sends to marginalized communities. The tragic circumstances of Kirk's death should not overshadow the harmful legacy of his work. While we can condemn violence in all forms, we must also be critical of the ideologies that promote division and discrimination in our society. I ask that you take a stand against this misguided resolution and instead advocate for honoring truly unifying figures in our nation's history.
