I am writing to urge you to oppose anti-transgender legislation and support policies that protect transgender people in our community. Recent polling data demonstrates that this position aligns with what voters across the political spectrum actually want.
A Fox News poll shows that American voters prefer Democrats over Republicans on transgender issues by a striking 22-point margin, with 60% supporting the Democratic approach versus 38% for Republicans. This is not a narrow partisan divide. The data reveals broad support across virtually every demographic group, including many traditionally Republican constituencies.
The numbers are particularly compelling among key voter groups. Moderates favor the Democratic position 63% to 32%, a 31-point margin. Voters under 45 support Democrats 65% to 35%. Even rural voters, often assumed to oppose transgender rights, break for Democrats by 10 points, with white rural voters supporting Democrats 51% to 45%.
Religious voters also show unexpected support. Catholics and Protestants favor Democrats by approximately 16 points on this issue. Even among evangelical Christians, 41% sided with Democrats on transgender policy. These findings suggest that anti-transgender politics has lost its electoral potency.
This polling aligns with recent election results. In November, candidates who centered their campaigns on anti-transgender messaging were defeated despite Republicans spending tens of millions of dollars on attack ads. Races in Virginia, New Jersey, and school board contests nationwide showed voters rejecting this approach.
I ask that you oppose legislation targeting transgender people and instead support policies that protect their rights and dignity. The evidence shows this position reflects what your constituents want and represents sound policy that protects vulnerable members of our community. Voters are ready to reward elected officials who stand up for transgender people rather than scapegoat them.
