I'm writing to urge you to oppose the passing of HR9495 without significant revisions curbing the potential to abuse the powers this grants the executive branch, particularly in light of who will soon occupy it. As we have all seen, Donald Trump is inclined to regard even mild criticism of himself as the behavior of terrorists, and he will undoubtedly soon have the power to coerce the DOJ into labeling any person or organization an associate of terrorism. All bills must be regarded with the certainty that any power they invest in the office shall be used with no regard for norms and customs -- the honor system does not apply to people without honor.
