The Trump administration wrongly deported hundreds of U.S. citizens through reckless practices, as evidenced by the cases of Gaspar Marcos, a naturalized American since 1989 who was detained for over a month before federal agents determined he was a citizen, and the 2-year-old American citizen known as V.M.L. This unlawful deprivation of citizenship rights demands accountability. We urge Congress to investigate cases like Marcos' and V.M.L.'s deportations, sanction responsible parties, and enact reforms preventing such unconstitutional actions from repeating.
