Restore Ready To Learn grant for children's education

The Department of Education's decision to terminate the $23 million Ready To Learn grant program that funded educational children's shows like "Sesame Street" and "Reading Rainbow" is deeply concerning. These programs have played a vital role in early childhood education for decades, providing high-quality educational content accessible to all families regardless of income level. Cutting funding threatens to deprive millions of children, especially those from underserved communities, of valuable learning opportunities at a critical stage of development. The stated justification for this move – that the funds supported "racial justice educational programming" – is dubious at best. Quality educational programming that reflects the diversity of our society and promotes understanding should be embraced, not condemned. We must prioritize investments that expand access to early learning and set our children up for success, not defund proven programs that families across the country rely on. I urge you to work to restore funding for the Ready To Learn grant program and ensure continued support for public media's essential educational mission. The benefits of these shows reach far beyond any perceived partisan concerns. They represent a shared investment in our children's futures that transcends political divisions. Please stand up for high-quality, equitable early learning opportunities for all kids.
