Enough is enough. These laws have to go.

I'm writing in strong opposition to KOSA, which is being revived next week. KOSA, TAKE IT DOWN, and the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act are horrible laws that could significantly cripple free expression and speech especially under the Trump administration. Donald Trump's interest in getting these bills passed has been openly known, along with Senator Mike Lee's bias against marginalized communities. All three of these pieces of legislation would be a First Amendment nightmare and Fourth Amendment nightmare. Wanting to protect children is a laudable goal. But against the backdrop of programs for children being defunded, kids being ripped from their parents in the streets, cancer patients being held in prison in El Salvador, healthcare and food stamps being reduced or wiped out completely, books being banned, the press, lawyers and judges being threatened, KOSA, the SCREEN Act, SESTA, FOSTA, TAKE IT DOWN, and the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act look absolutely ridiculous. They have never protected kids from being sexually assaulted, groomed, exploited or trafficked at religious institutions, school settings, 'troubled teen' camps, or at institutions that were set up to help victims of sex trafficking which begs the question, who do these laws benefit? These instances have increased, not decreased, since these laws came into effect. I'm enraged that during a time where freedom is threatened and people are being illegally detained, pornography is the number one priority of Congress. A plane was gifted to the sitting president of the US, and Congress is still choosing to vote on unconditional bills? I am ashamed to call myself an American l. unconditional bills? I am ashamed to call myself an American. What is actually being done for the children? Child abuse hotlines are being defunded. Some schools are shutting down completely. Early learning provided by public broadcasting is being shuttered and kids won't be able to have steady meals during the summer. But apparently pornography is the problem? Stop this. Repeal, amend and vote against these laws.
