Congress needs to denounce Trump’s and Vance’s behavior with Zalensky on Feb. 28

To: Sen. Moreno, Rep. Jordan, Sen. Husted

From: A constituent in Powell, OH

March 1

I am writing to express my outrage and profound disappointment regarding the events that unfolded during President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance's meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on February 28th. The public reprimands, accusations, and dismissive tone directed at a wartime ally were not only undiplomatic but also undermined the United States' commitment to supporting Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression. President Trump’s remarks, including falsely labeling President Zelensky a “dictator” and accusing him of “gambling with World War III,” were inflammatory and unproductive. Vice President Vance’s questioning of Zelensky’s gratitude for U.S. aid further escalated tensions, culminating in the premature end of the meeting and the cancellation of a joint press conference. Such behavior damages our credibility on the global stage and risks alienating an ally fighting for democratic values. I urge you to hold the administration accountable for this alarming conduct. The United States must reaffirm its commitment to Ukraine and ensure that our foreign policy reflects respect, diplomacy, and support for those resisting authoritarian aggression. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. I look forward to your response.
