Trump's recent comments about seeking an unconstitutional third term as president are an alarming assault on American democracy. The 22nd Amendment clearly limits presidents to two elected terms, a rule Trump swore an oath to uphold. His cavalier dismissal of this foundational check on executive power represents a dangerous disregard for the Constitution and the will of the people. Congress must forcefully reject Trump's anti-democratic rhetoric and reaffirm its commitment to upholding the rule of law and the peaceful transfer of power. Failure to push back against such authoritarian tendencies only enables further abuses and threats to our democratic system of government. Upholding the Constitution should not be a partisan issue. I urge you to make it unambiguously clear that any extralegal efforts to remain in power will not be tolerated.
