Trump’s Word Games Cost Lives: Congress, Exercise Your Power to Stop the Iran War Now! The executive branch is engaged in a dangerous semantic game, using rhetorical loopholes to sustain unconstitutional hostilities with Iran. While the administration plays word games to obscure the reality of an escalating war, American service members and civilians face the catastrophic consequences of a conflict unauthorized by the representatives of the people. The Constitution explicitly grants the power to declare war to Congress, not the executive. You cannot remain passive while the War Powers Resolution is bypassed through legal gymnastics and linguistic redefinitions. De-escalation cannot rely on executive restraint that does not exist. I compel you to immediately exert your constitutional authority. Reassert your oversight, cut off funding for unauthorized operations, and pass a binding resolution to halt these hostilities. Your silence is consent to an illegal conflict. Reclaim your mandate, end the word games, and stop this war.
