Unplug the "Ratepayer Protection" Act: Power People, Not Big Tech Data Centers The "Ratepayer Protection Act" is a wolf in consumer’s clothing. While it promises to shield families from skyrocketing utility bills, its toothless, voluntary provisions do absolutely nothing to stop the massive 267% electricity spikes hitting data center-heavy regions. Instead, this nothing-burger bill quietly fast-tracks AI infrastructure by gutting crucial environmental reviews and prioritizing corporate grid access. By treating data center expansion as inevitable, Congress is actively subsidizing multi-billion-dollar tech giants at the direct expense of working families. This is not just a threat to our wallets; it is an environmental emergency. These massive warehouses strain natural gas lines, consume millions of gallons of water, and leak dangerous PFAS "forever chemicals" into local ecosystems, all while operating completely free of strict emission standards. We need real, legally binding legislation—not corporate giveaways masquerading as consumer relief. I strongly urge you to reject this heavily flawed bill. Instead, advocate for an immediate moratorium on new AI data center projects until rigid, enforceable consumer cost caps and comprehensive pollution regulations are firmly established. Stop letting Big Tech offload its massive footprint and infrastructure bills onto our communities. Put everyday citizens ahead of AI profits.
