Support the Open Courts Act of 2026

To: Rep. Mannion, Sen. Gillibrand, Sen. Schumer

From: A verified voter in Syracuse, NY

June 19

Please co-sponsor and vote yes on the Open Courts Act of 2026. PACER, the federal court records system, charges the public more than $150 million a year to access documents that belong to the public. Court records are public records. Charging people to read judicial decisions and court filings is indefensible. The Open Courts Act would replace PACER's outdated infrastructure with a modern, unified platform that eliminates fees, improves cybersecurity, and makes records easier to find and understand. This isn't a new fight — a nearly identical bill already cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee with bipartisan support in a prior session. The coalition behind this bill includes civil society groups, open government watchdogs, and media organizations. The case is airtight. What's missing is the political will to get it across the finish line.
