**Pass the GRID Act to Protect Residential Ratepayers from Data Center Costs**
Pass SB3852, the Guaranteeing Rate Insulation from Data Centers Act, without delay. Data centers are consuming electricity at a staggering scale, and right now the cost of integrating that demand into the shared grid gets quietly passed on to residential customers through rate increases and infrastructure cost recovery. That's not acceptable.
The GRID Act fixes this directly. By requiring data centers to source all their power from captive or off-grid generation, it stops large industrial operators from offloading their energy costs onto ordinary households. The mandatory public disclosure of utility agreements and the national reporting framework for data center energy usage mean regulators and the public can actually see what's happening — no more opacity. The $1,000,000-per-day civil penalty for violations ensures this isn't just a suggestion.
Residential ratepayers shouldn't be subsidizing the infrastructure costs of some of the most profitable corporations in the world. Get this bill to a vote and pass it.
