I am a constituent from Atlanta, GA, and I am writing to urge you to vote against H.R. 8800, the FY2027 National Defense Authorization Act, for as long as Section 224, the United States–Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative, remains part of the legislation.
While I recognize the importance of national defense and international cooperation, I have serious concerns about Section 224 and believe it should not be included in the NDAA. In my view, this provision would further deepen U.S. military and technological integration with Israel at a time when many Americans are calling for greater congressional oversight, accountability, and transparency regarding U.S. military assistance and defense partnerships in the region.
I am concerned that expanding defense technology cooperation through this initiative could commit additional U.S. resources and political support without sufficient public debate about the implications for U.S. foreign policy, regional stability, human rights, and American taxpayers. Congress should carefully evaluate such programs as standalone legislation rather than incorporating them into a must-pass defense authorization bill.
For these reasons, I respectfully ask that you oppose H.R. 8800 unless Section 224 is removed. If the provision is brought forward separately, I urge you to scrutinize it thoroughly and ensure that any defense cooperation agreements are subject to robust congressional oversight and public accountability.
As your constituent, I hope you will represent the concerns of those who believe U.S. defense policy should reflect transparency, responsible stewardship of public resources, and a commitment to peace and stability.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing your position on this matter.
