When Trump was re-elected to office, my dream was the Maine would become a safe haven from all the bile, hatred and violence his administration stands for. Maine would be a welcoming place for all the communities Trump aims to erase. Yesterday, that dream was shattered. We are national news because we allowed ICE into our state, unchecked, and they killed a man, a husband and a father, over his immigration status. NO ONE deserves to be shot over immigration status, illegal or not. I’m heartbroken, angry and deeply ashamed. I can’t say “this isn’t who we are,”because now it is who we are. And it’s disgusting. Defund ICE. Stop them terrorizing our streets.
