Open letter to Donald Trump: How ridiculous is this “war” on Portland? I was just there for a wedding last week and it is the most mellow, peaceable city you can imagine. The only violence I have heard of there is the bad and illegal behavior of ICE agents. Agents slamming women and elderly people to the ground, breaking car windows to drag out brown people who are citizens or legally in the country—just brown. No warrants or due process. This behavior is reprehensible but it’s coming from your agents, not the people of Portland (or anywhere else across this country.) Sending your Department of War to Portland makes you a complete laughingstock. It’s so obviously ridiculous. Americans see what you are doing and fewer and fewer Americans support you. You need to get out of your bubble and see what is really happening. Your sycophants are feeding you false information and people around you are exerting too much power in harmful ways. Sending the military into American cities is illegal and unconstitutional.
