The bird flu outbreak is deeply concerning and I truly fear it being mishandled by the incoming administration. If this mutates to human transmission, I am very worried that the government will prioritize the economy over lives, as both parties have proven capable of doing over the years with COVID. Even now, I worry not enough culling is being done with infected livestock out of economic fears. We know the trump administration will encourage false narratives and not keep us led by science if the worst happens with bird flu. If this mutates under their watch, so many people could get needlessly infected due to bad messaging, as they still do with Covid. But any public health situation could get so much worse if RFK Jr is allowed to lead HHS. We need somebody who will lead from a background of science and facts. Somebody who believes in and will encourage vaccinations. Not somebody who encourages consumption of raw milk and moving backwards. We need leaders willing to take drastic action to mitigate this bird flu threat. RFK Jr. is a dangerous choice for HHS leadership at any time, but he is a potentially deadly choice at a time when a virus is one mutation away from human to human transmission. Please not only oppose his appointment, but be vocal on the dangers he presents to our current threat of bird flu.
