Noem must resign or be impeached

To: Sen. Merkley, Rep. Bonamici, Sen. Wyden

From: A constituent in Hillsboro, OR

January 8

I am writing to demand that you publicly call for the resignation of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem due to grave failures in leadership, training, and accountability within the Department of Homeland Security. The recent shooting in Minnesota, along with other DHS and ICE incidents, has made clear that the department is operating without adequate oversight or competence. Today, an individual was killed, and DHS has claimed the killing was an act of self-defense. However, multiple publicly available videos appear to directly contradict this account, raising serious concerns that DHS is misleading the public about the use of lethal force by its agents. These incidents reflect not only dishonesty, but a dangerous lack of proper training, discipline, and command responsibility within ICE and DHS more broadly. A federal agency entrusted with extraordinary power cannot be allowed to operate with such disregard for transparency, accuracy, and human life. Secretary Noem’s continued leadership undermines public trust and signals that misconduct and misrepresentation will go unpunished. Congress has a duty to act when executive agencies fail. I urge you to call for Secretary Noem’s resignation and to demand immediate accountability and reform at DHS. Silence or inaction makes Congress complicit.
