Protect LGBTQ+ Americans

To: Sen. Warren, Sen. Markey, Rep. Clark

From: A constituent in Watertown, MA

June 3

As public servants, you have a responsibility to protect the rights and freedoms of all Americans, including LGBTQ individuals. The Trump regime's proposed policies outline a disturbing and comprehensive assault on LGBTQ rights that must be stopped. These discriminatory measures, if implemented, would strip federal protections against anti-LGBTQ discrimination across numerous spheres and actively mandate discrimination, i.e. banning transgender individuals from military service and blocking access to gender-affirming medical care through Medicare.   Disturbingly, these proposals seek to weaponize federal law as a means to criminalize gender non-conformity and override state protections for LGBTQ individuals.   During Pride Month, it is imperative that Congress take a stand. Righting these wrongs requires legislative action that permanently enshrines federal non-discrimination protections. The Equality Act, prohibiting anti-LGBTQ discrimination nationwide, must be prioritized. State-level protections and funding streams for LGBTQ services should be encouraged where the administration seeks to undermine them at the federal level.   The stakes could not be higher - Congress must use every tool at its disposal to safeguard LGBTQ rights and prevent this regime from inflicting grave harm on an entire community.
