Some years ago there was outcry over Medicare “death panels” that wasn’t true then but now we really do have death panels coming to Medicare. The administration has come up with the Wasteful and Inappropriate Services Reduction (WISeR) model. Contractors will be paid based on denying claims. They will be using AI to make these life and death decisions. This is appalling. Medicare has worked well in being clear about coverage and not requiring prior authorization for covered services. Adding prior authorization to Medicare will result in delayed care and more deaths. This is unacceptable!
