Rein in Department of Education Loan Restrictions on Essential Workers I am a voting constituent writing to urge you to exercise immediate congressional oversight and rein in the Department of Education's latest regulations, which strip federal student loan eligibility from higher education programs whose graduates earn lower baseline incomes. While framed as consumer protection, this blanket rule inflicts severe collateral damage on vital public-service professions. Our nation is already facing a critical shortage of social workers and early childhood educators—roles that mandate accredited college degrees, specialized training, and state licensure. Cutting off federal student loans for these degree programs will not alter market wages; it will simply block dedicated students from pursuing these vital careers. The low earnings in these sectors reflect systemic underfunding of public services, not a lack of educational quality or utility. The real solution to low pay in caregiving and human services is to raise wages and properly compensate these workforces—not to ruin individuals' ability to attend college. If allowed to stand, this rule will paralyze the pipeline for mental healthcare, child development, and community safety. Please intervene to halt these restrictions and defend the educational pathways our communities depend on most.
