Twenty billion taxpayer dollars to prop up Argentina’s economy while American farmers are staring down bankruptcy is an insult to every working person in this country.
President Trump’s $20 billion “currency swap” with Argentina’s central bank is, in plain English, a bailout—a lifeline to one of our biggest competitors in soybean production, funded by U.S. taxpayers. Meanwhile, the same administration’s trade war with China has gutted American soybean sales, leaving farmers in Iowa, Nebraska, and across the Midwest desperate for relief.
If this White House truly believes in “America First,” it should start by standing with the Americans who grow our food. Every dollar spent rescuing Argentina is a dollar not spent helping our own farmers survive.
Congress must immediately demand transparency on the terms of this deal, block any further disbursements of U.S. taxpayer funds to Argentina, and prioritize direct relief and fair trade opportunities for American agricultural producers.
We don’t need another foreign bailout. We need a government that remembers who it’s supposed to be working for.
