I’m writing as a concerned constituent to urge you to take immediate and proactive steps to protect American workers from the growing threat of job displacement due to artificial intelligence. While AI offers tremendous potential for innovation and efficiency, its unchecked advancement risks devastating consequences for millions of people whose livelihoods are now vulnerable to automation.
Across industries, from transportation and logistics to finance, media, and even white-collar professions, AI is poised to replace human labor at an unprecedented scale and speed. Without meaningful legislative action, we risk deepening existing inequalities, hollowing out the middle class, and undermining the dignity of work itself.
I urge you to support policies that prioritize people over profit and innovation for its own sake. This includes legislation that:
• Establishes stronger worker protections against sudden displacement
• Invests in large-scale, accessible retraining programs for affected industries
• Imposes reasonable guardrails on the deployment of AI where it threatens mass layoffs
• Encourages businesses to adopt AI in ways that augment, rather than replace, human workers
Tech companies will not self-regulate in this area. They are incentivized to prioritize efficiency and shareholder profits, often at the expense of workers and communities. It is the role of government to ensure that technological progress serves the public good, not just corporate interests.
Please stand up for the working people of this country and lead with foresight and courage. AI should be a tool to enhance human potential, not a weapon to erode job security and livelihoods.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to seeing your leadership on this urgent issue.
