On April 23 in the House, Rep. Rashida Tlaib introduced a new piece of legislation: the Ban Warehouse Detention Act. As your constituent, I'm asking you to please co-sponsor this bill in the House OR introduce a companion bill in the Senate. This bill would prohibit DHS from converting or operating any warehouse for the purpose of detaining people. DHS has spent about a billion dollars in the past few months to buy warehouses across the country. It’s begun converting them into ICE detention centers that could each cage up to 10,000 people. Already, at least 17 people have died or been killed in ICE detention facilities so far in 2026. That’s one death per week on average, putting our country on a path to far exceed last year’s horrific record high. We cannot allow this rapid expansion of immigrant detention. Please push back against these warehouses, and fight for our neighbors and our shared humanity. Please act now to pass the Ban Warehouse Detention Act. It's urgent and the time is now.
