I am writing to express my serious concerns about Hakeem Jeffries as a potential Speaker of the House. At a time when our democracy depends on meaningful congressional oversight, independent leadership, and accountability, I question whether he would provide the level of opposition and scrutiny that this moment demands.
I am particularly concerned by his weak response to the Trump administration. When an administration engages in criminal conduct and abuses the authority of its office, Congress has a constitutional responsibility to investigate, demand answers, and hold those responsible accountable. I am concerned that Jeffries’ approach will not provide the aggressive, independent oversight necessary to fulfill that responsibility.
I am also troubled by the influence of large corporate and wealthy donors in our political system. The Speaker of the House should be accountable first and foremost to the American people, not wealthy individuals, corporate interests, or powerful political contributors including AIPAC. I want assurances that Jeffries’ leadership would prioritize the public interest over donor influence.
We cannot afford leadership that treats accountability as a partisan convenience or allows political calculations and financial interests to take precedence over constitutional responsibilities.
I urge you to carefully consider these concerns before supporting Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker. Our country needs congressional leadership willing to challenge abuses of power, investigate credible allegations of wrongdoing, and stand independently of wealthy special interests.
The responsibility of Congress is to hold those in power accountable, not protect them from scrutiny.
Thank you for your consideration and for your service.
