Oppose partisan FBI leadership undermining credibility and integrity

To: Pres. Trump, Sen. Johnson, Sen. Baldwin, Rep. Van Orden

From: A constituent in Eau Claire, WI

February 25

The appointment of Dan Bongino, a far-right commentator with no prior FBI experience, as deputy director of the FBI is deeply concerning. It undermines the bureau's credibility and independence by putting an unqualified political partisan in a key leadership role. The deputy director position has traditionally been filled by experienced agents to maintain operational expertise, but Bongino lacks this critical background. His promotion of false conspiracy theories about the 2020 election being "stolen" raises serious doubts about his ability to be an impartial enforcer of law and order. Putting someone whose "entire life is about owning the libs" in charge of overseeing investigations is an affront to the FBI's mandate to pursue justice without regard for political allegiances. This overtly partisan appointment risks turning the FBI into a tool for pushing the administration's agenda rather than upholding the rule of law evenhandedly. I urge you to oppose this misguided nomination that threatens to erode public trust in a vital institution.
