Investigate OPM data privacy breach, ensure federal worker protection
To: Sen. Britt, Sen. Tuberville

There are serious concerns about the actions taken by Elon Musk's team at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). They have locked career civil servants out of computer systems containing sensitive personal data of millions of federal employees, including dates of birth, Social Security numbers, home addresses, and employment records. This creates significant cybersecurity risks and a lack of oversight over how this private data is being handled. Government employees have a reasonable expectation of privacy for their personal information held by their employer. Granting unfettered access to an outside party without proper safeguards and transparency is a breach of that trust and legal obligations around data protection. There needs to be rigorous oversight and accountability measures in place to ensure the proper handling and security of this data. I urge you to investigate these troubling actions at OPM that jeopardize federal workers' privacy and hold those responsible accountable. Stringent protocols must be implemented to protect the confidential data of public servants from misuse or exploitation. The public's trust in the ethical stewardship of government operations is at stake.
