Dworkin Report shows the following_When we went straight to the federal court docket—more than 200 entries deep—we found what the rest of the media skipped. Inside a lawsuit between a defense contractor and its former CEO, the man behind that donation, one of his own executives filed a March 2020 email chain as evidence. None of the coverage we’ve seen quotes it. It contains an internal PR plan, and replies from executives debating whether to admit a “scholarship charity” was actually tied to them. Among other things, the plan laid out two ways to use that charity as a cover story. First, hand it to the super PAC backing Collins as “ammunition” against Democratic attacks. Second, send a private note to a staffer in Collins’s office offering the story “in any way that can help the Senator in her re-election campaign.” The planned note ends with six words: “We’re with her all the way.” And it gets worse. We pulled the Federal Election Commission file. The super PAC’s official answer to regulators came through its lawyer: Cleta Mitchell, the same lawyer who, ProPublica reports, suggested the scholarships, and who later helped Trump try to overturn the 2020 election. When the FEC’s own lawyers reviewed the PAC’s defense, they noted the treasurer’s statement still hadn’t even been notarized.
