I am writing as your constituent from Westfield, Massachusetts to express my deep concern and opposition to the recent military actions that have reportedly resulted in the destruction of the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ elementary school in Minab, Iran and the deaths and injuries of many children.
Reports indicate that this strike occurred during the ongoing U.S.-Israeli military campaign and has tragically killed and wounded young students who were simply attending school. UNESCO — the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization — has condemned the attack as a grave violation of international humanitarian law, noting that educational institutions and their students should be protected in all circumstances.
Attacks on civilian targets, especially schools, represent not only a devastating loss of innocent life but also a violation of internationally recognized norms designed to protect children and non-combatants in times of conflict. The right of every child to live and learn in safety should be upheld by all governments, including the United States.
I urge you to support diplomatic efforts to de-escalate this conflict and to oppose further strikes that put civilian lives, especially those of children, at risk. I also respectfully request that you advocate for:
1. A transparent congressional review of U.S. involvement in military operations that may harm civilians.
2. Clear oversight and reporting requirements for civilian protection in all defense authorizations.
3. Enhanced emphasis on non-military solutions and humanitarian dialogue to resolve international disputes.
Thank you for your service and for considering the human impact of U.S. foreign policy decisions. I trust you will stand for the protection of innocent lives, uphold international law, and push for de-escalation and peace.
