The detention and potential deportation of the Russian medical researcher at Harvard for protesting against the Ukraine war is a concerning violation of free speech rights. As an institution promoting intellectual discourse, Harvard should defend its researchers and protect academic freedom. Dissent is a vital part of a functioning democracy. Deporting this individual for voicing opposition to the war undermines fundamental American values of free expression. I urge an immediate review of this case and a halt to any deportation proceedings against those exercising their constitutional rights through peaceful protest.
