Testing Conversion Therapy on Prisoners is Cruel and Unusual

To: Rep. Huizenga, Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters

From: A verified voter in Kalamazoo, MI

March 29

The Trump administration's Bureau of Prisons policy forcing 2,200 transgender people in federal custody to medically and socially detransition is unconstitutional medical experimentation. I need you to oppose this policy and support the ACLU's lawsuit blocking its enforcement. The administrative record released on March 12th proves the BOP knowingly ignored medical consensus. They reviewed the DSM-5, WPATH Standards of Care, and studies showing the benefits of gender-affirming care, then deliberately discarded them. Instead, they based their policy on sources about transgender minors, Florida's politically motivated guidelines, and research about menopause to create a "tapering plan" for stopping hormone therapy. This is medical experimentation on a captive population. Most damning: the BOP reviewed 10 studies on suicide risk among transgender people while implementing a policy that increases that risk. They also reviewed CDC standards for documenting suicide data. They know this policy will cause deaths and they plan to collect the data rather than prevent it. Judge Royce Lamberth has blocked enforcement for 800 people diagnosed with gender dysphoria, but 1,400 others remain at risk. This is forced conversion therapy, which the UN recognizes as torture. Congress must intervene to protect people in federal custody from this cruel and unusual punishment. https://transitics.substack.com/p/the-trump-administration-admits-to
